5. Newsweek magazine
In 2010, Newsweek’s prior owner sold it for a single $1 to a different business called the Daily Beast. This is unexpected given that the cost of a single magazine copy was six dollars, which is six times more than the total sale price of the business. In addition, Newsweek’s prior owner gave the new owner $10 million in exchange for taking over the company’s debts. It all seems legitimate on paper, but this was a really shady trade.
